In this masterpiece set in Medieval Sweden, a knight and his squire, back from Crusades, find a witch (Maud Hansson) chained to a pole. At night she is chained to the rails of a car and led into the woods to be executed. Then she is tied to a horizontal ladder. She squirms while the knight asks her about the devil. She asks something to drink and the knight gives her some water (it's not a handgag). The guards lift the ladder against a tree, then the witch is burned. |
